As the recent service changes failed to include service for the Dings we are exploring other ways to provide this. WESTlocal allows community groups to apply for WECA funding to locally design and operate bus services on a pilot basis until 2026. This funding facilitates the trial of new and innovative services which hopefully will become commercially viable by the time funding runs out in mid-2026. We are assessing the above route as an option and will update you.
Our proposed alteration to First's 5 service can only be made in their bi-annual service changes and so we consistently advocate for this to be included in upcoming service changes through local government statements and meetings with operators.
Due to the recent FirstBus service changes, in which our alteration was not incorporated into the new 5 route, we are exploring alternative avenues, one being WESTlocal funding. This WECA funding allows for locally designed, innovative, and new bus services to be funded on a pilot basis until mid-2026.
Partnering with the Dings Community Association, door knocking has garnered circa 100 signatures on our petition and the media has publicised the campaign and applied that little bit of pressure on those in power!

Lime green line and dots - Our proposed alteration for Dings service
Red line and stops - Stops no longer served with our proposed alteration
Our proposed alteration to the 5 route will provide a cross-city, commercially viable route connecting people in the Dings to economic, educational, and cultural opportunities. However, this is no longer prioritised due to recent discussions with First regarding its viability and WESTlocal funding.
