An exciting project starting this summer that involves filling in the active travel infrastructure gap between Old Market Roundabout and Castle Street through extending the segregated active travel infrastructure and reconfiguring the road junction. We thank BCC and WECA for getting this project underway and listening to our feedback.
Traffic on Castle Street will be directed onto Tower Hill instead of Lower Castle Street, enabling pedestrians and active travellers to have a signalled and segregated crossing as well as a safer junction with Tower Hill.
Traffic will be reduced to one lane to allow for the removal of the old and deteriorating active travel contra-flow and this will instead be replaced with a fully segregated two-way bike lane which will link up with Castle Street and Counterslip. This will greatly improve a key route into the city - Sustran's National Cycle Route 4.
